About this tool

The Emerging Creative Finder queries a working sample of the Nonesuch Index and surfaces five entities matching four filters: discipline, region, medium, and status. Each match links to an Index entry with the creative's full profile. Status is descriptive: underground means the practice is known to specialists, emerging means the practice is entering broader view, established means the practice is a reference for others in the field.

The Nonesuch Index is an ongoing catalog of 1,595 contemporary entities across eight disciplines. The finder draws from a curated subset chosen for breadth across every filter combination. For the full catalog, browse the Index directly. For submission or correction, use the contact link.

Questions

How is the Nonesuch Index built?
Primary sources, original interviews, catalog review, and peer nomination. Every entity is reviewed before inclusion. The Index is not a popularity ranking.
Why only five results?
Five is the attention budget of the finder. If the filter returns more, the tool rotates the selection on each run. Refresh to see another five.
What counts as emerging?
A creative whose primary work is in the last 60 months, who has been cited by at least one authoritative outlet, and whose audience is growing outside their original city.
How do I nominate a creative?
Use the contact page. Include links to the work, a short biography, and any third-party citations. Nonesuch reviews submissions quarterly.
Are Index pages different from this tool?
Yes. Each Index page is a long-form profile with biography, key works, influences, and context. This tool is a surface over those pages.
